Buying a House – Part 4: Inspecting

Hi my lovelies! I am down with the flu at the moment – I think my body is telling me to relax.

I have been stuck in bed watching series (sounds like I am complaining but I am not!) but also I decided to tackle making pickled fish for the long weekend (I hope it is as amazing as it smells).

For Part 4 of the home buying series, I thought I wold discuss our tactic in finding a good area to settle in as well as what we looked for when viewing our home.

AW/17 Capsule

Hi Lovelies! Hope this weather is treating you well – I love colder weather (more layers – as a modest dresser this is super important).

It’s that time of the year where I look through my wardrobe and build a seasonal capsule (if you’ve been following me from the beginning, you will know I have taken on a minimalist style and lifestyle).

Read more below about what I gravitate towards now and how I build my outfits.

Buying a House – Part 3: The cost of buying a house

Hello lovelies! I am typing this as I sit at our table in our new home! Alhamdulilah!

It has been a process and it has been a journey but, we finally have a place to call home (complete with a garden and amazing neighbours).

We have “settled in” so to speak… and by that I mean we have unpacked what we needed and shoved all the other boxes into the study – I just try not to look at it.

So this post is all about the cost of buying a house…

Buying a House – Part 1: Should you buy a home?

Hello lovelies! I hope everyone is enjoying 2017 so far and that January is the start of a wonderful productive year (I know it’s been that way from my side at least!)

So 2017 has started off with a bang for Labeeq and myself as we are currently in the process of buying our first house (*happy dances to all the music*).

While this may not seem like much of a feat, being Millennials, aged 24 and 27, it’s a pretty big deal, not only in South Africa, but as a young Muslim couple as well.

A little background for you; we got married a year and 10 months ago and have since rented (for 7 months), stayed with my in-laws until we could find a smaller place of our own (3 months) and have since been renting (11 months).

While I don’t have a problem with renting, We both wanted a place to call our own, with walls we could paint, art we could hang and a little garden for Cinnamon to roam free (she’s been acting so weird – like a cat that’s never seen grass in her life, rolling about all over it O.o)

We found an almost home last year, but there was a huge problem with subdividing the property (D O N T go that route! Unless you have the time, money and strength.) It was a tedious, tiring and a pointless process – in the end we didn’t get the house and started from scratch.

We started looking at other areas, went to quite a few viewings but nothing was within our budget OR fit our requirements.

We were actually viewing another property when I saw the ‘For Sale’ sign outside our soon to be home.

Made contact with the agent and boom! Here we are today.

One of the most important questions to ask yourself is; should you buy a home? Are you ready?

We are in a place where we can afford to (financially) and we don’t have any dependents as yet, so the time for us was now.

Remember to sit down with your partner and make a decision that’s best for both of you (or you and the kids).

I told Labeeq that the next move we make has to be into our own home (I’ve moved 3 times since we got married!!!!) – This was our next step together and I am really happy to be doing this with the love of my life!

How are you finding the housing market in South Africa?

Year in Review: 2016

Hi lovelies! Sorry it’s been so long since my last post! I have actually been in holiday mode!!!

With it being New Years Eve today, I thought it would be appropriate to post about my year, what I envision for 2017 and how this year has been for me.

I have been seeing a lot of posts on social media, accounting 2016 as the worst year, I however, had a wonderful year!

I became an aunty, shared my first anniversary with my husband, we also gained a fur baby (Cinnamon!!!) as well as a new sister (congrats to our brother getting hitched!)

2016 was basically filled with family, love and all kinds of good food.

We are also, Inshallah, in the process of becoming homeowners, so for us, 2016 has been all about that hustling and good food life.

Remember… Tomorrow is a new day to better yourself and to overcome obstacles.

Wishing all my followers a lovely New Years Eve and a wonderful 2017 ahead. Let’s make the next year better than the last.
