Hello Hello my lovelies! Hope you have been well and keeping warm, now that winter is upon us!
This past Sunday, I had the honour of attending my 3rd consecutive Hijab Fashion Week SA show (run by Abashiya Achilles of Fabulous in Hijab).
Now the Hijab Fashion Week is held to showcase local Hijabi and Modestwear designers clothing lines, whilst spreading the word about Hijab, modest dressing and encouraging women to embrace their style while still remaining classically covered.
Held at the beautiful Nico Malan Hall in Observatory, with its beautiful tall windows and tons of natural light, this was a perfect venue for a Sunday morning session.
The show was hosted by Abashiya’s older Sister, Gadija Khan of the GKD label.
This year’s show was a little different to the previous years I have attended – with more focus on the empowerment of Women.
They hosted guest speaker Rogeema Kenny as well as comedian, Shimmy Isaacs. If you have not seen her perform, do yourself a favour right now and Google her!
Rogeema spoke about her experience as a female engineer as well as avid sportswoman, in a world where these professions and hobbies are mostly male dominated. She advised the audience to be their own role models and motivate themselves to follow their dreams, which I think is important especially in a time where women often take the time out to see to their families, but often forget to look after themselves.
Shimmy touched on all kinds of relatable topics, from small town stereotypes (as she hails from Worcester) to talking your way out of traffic fines for driving without a license.
But let’s get to what you’re really here to see – the fashions!!! Scarves were provided by Hijabuki
And obviously, what is any Sunday, without my Sunday Best?
